It is typically better to start your journey by getting preapproved for a mortgage.

What should I expect at closing?

If you bring everything you need on closing day, get ready for a John Hancock party! Here’s what to expect:

    • You’ll pay any remaining closing costs, as listed in your Closing Disclosure.

    • The seller will sign documents to transfer property ownership.

  • You will sign a:
    • Settlement statement that lists all costs related to the home sale.
    • Mortgage note stating your promise to repay the loan.
    • Mortgage or deed of trust securing the mortgage note.
What is pre-approval?

A mortgage pre-approval isn’t a promise that you’ll get a loan for the home you want to buy. A mortgage pre-approval only means a loan officer has looked at your finances—your income, debt, assets, and credit history—and determined how much money you can borrow, how much you could pay per month, and what your interest rate will be.
